Validation of the Arabic version of the ORTO-R among a sample of Lebanese young adults

Abstract: Background Within the literature, there is a variety of different measurement methods for orthorexic behaviours. The ORTO-15 is the one that attracted most research attention. Many scholars criticized the ORTO-15 for its unstable factor structure and over-estimation of the prevalence of orthorexia nervosa. For this purpose, Rogoza and Donini (Eat Weight Disord 26:887–895, 2020) re-assessed the original data and created a new tool, ORTO-R. The development of the ORTO-R theoretically solved many amb… Show more

“…Our data support the reliability of the ORTO-R as a measure for ON symptoms, reporting for the instrument a good internal consistency as measured by Cronbach's alpha coefficient. The value of 0.740 reported in our sample is in line with those reported for the ORTO-R in other languages (46)(47)(48) and with the measures of reliability reported in the original validation study (19).…”

“…As in the case of the ORTO-15, the ORTO-R has been developed in Italian and English, while its Italian version has been used for the validation study, performed in an Italian population ( 18 , 19 ). The questionnaire has also been validated in Arabic ( 46 , 47 ) and Greek ( 48 ), confirming good psychometric properties. A Turkish version has been developed on the basis of the Turkish ORTO-11 ( 49 ).…”

“…Finally, in Study 3 we used only the revised content of items. Accordingly to the results in the literature [ 10 , 13 ], we expected that the revised items should outperform the former ones in terms of model fit to the data and internal consistency. In terms of convergent validity, in Study 1 we assessed its relations to symptoms and concerns characteristic of EDs (measured by EAT-26), in Study 2 we assessed the relations to eating behaviors and other orthorexic thoughts and behaviors.…”

“…To date, there are two studies within the literature on Lebanese population, which examined the ORTO-R. First study [ 10 ] used the items in their original form as they appeared in ORTO-15, without any modifications proposed in ORTO-R. Second study [ 10 ] examined the items in their revised version. While the former study struggled to provide adequate fit indices, results from the latter were better in terms of internal consistency and factorial structure.…”
