“…The volume of the EEC is 147 m 3, (area = 65 m 2 ) with a capacity up to 20 seats. During allergen exposures, airborne particles number and size are continuously monitored in order to ensure homogenous distribution of allergen 16 , 17 In this study, participants were exposed to the same batch of lyophilized birch allergen extract (100 IR; Stallergenes Greer ®), diluted in a NaCl solution, as the one used for the CAC. Before each EEC exposure, lyophilized birch allergen was prepared in a NaCl solution and nebulized in the EEC.…”

“…This study enroled 24 adults (13 women and 11 men) with a history of cat‐allergic asthma. The inclusion criteria were as follows: controlled intermittent asthma (step 1 treatment, only under short‐acting beta 2 agonist as needed, according to GINA Guideline 2016) with or without association with cat allergy‐related rhinoconjunctivitis; sensitization to cat allergen extract as defined by skin prick test for cat extract with a wheal diameter of ≥3 mm greater than negative control (ALK, HØrsholm, Denmark) and specific IgE anti‐Fel d 1 ≥ 0.7 kU/L (ImmunoCAP, Thermoficher), FEV1 ≥ 70% of the predicted value; no cat exposure at home or outside of the home during the study; positive methacholine challenge test performed using an AeroDoseur DTF‐Atomisor ATO‐AD 12 as previously published and early asthmatic response during baseline cat allergen exposure.…”

“…The EEC was conceived as a clean room, constructed with low‐emitting, non‐adherent, easily‐cleaned materials. All details concerning the airflow system, environmental conditions (endotoxins and VOCs levels), airborne particles and allergens have been published elsewhere . Patients were asked to wear protective coverall with integrated socks before entering the EEC and during the 2‐hours exposure in order to avoid contamination with outside allergens and with inside allergens when getting out of the EEC.…”
