Validation of multiplex PCR strategy for simultaneous detection and identification of methicillin resistantStaphylococcus aureus

Abstract: Multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) strategy is described for rapid identiÞ cation of clinically relevant methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) that targets mecA and coagulase genes. In this study, 150 staphylococcal clinical isolates were used that included 40 isolates of MRSA, 55 isolates of methicillin susceptible S. aureus (MSSA), 44 isolates of methicillin susceptible coagulase negative Staphylococcus spp. (MS-CoNS) and 11 isolates of methicillin resistant coagulase negative Staphylococ… Show more

“…The varied ethnobotanical uses of S. chirayita have led to the initiation of various pharmacological investigations. Previous research demonstrates that the S. chirayita extracts exhibit a wide range of biological activities, such as antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and others like antidiabetic and antioxidant activities (Verma et al, 2008 ; Alam et al, 2009 ; Arya et al, 2011 ; Chen et al, 2011 ; Laxmi et al, 2011 ). Concurrently, a diverse range of in vitro and in vivo test systems has been used to evaluate the pharmacological properties of S. chirayita .…”

“…MLST, on the other hand, is highly discriminatory, but is low throughput and expensive [ 34 , 45 ]. Multiplex PCR is a good compromise method, which offers the advantages of rapidly and relatively easily obtainable results, concordance with phenotypic tests and compatibility with patient management [ 48 , 49 ].…”

“…[32] Another Indian medicinal plant extract Swertia chirata inhibited HSV-1 viral dissemination. [33] Putranjivain A, isolate of Euphorbia jolkini Bioss, inhibited both the virus entry and late stage replication of HSV-2 in-vitro . [13] Kenyan plant Carissa edulis aqueous extract exhibited efficacy against both in-vitro and in-vivo models of HSV-1 infection.…”
