Validation of a Serologic Test for the Diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori Infection and the Immune Response to Urease and CagA in Children

Abstract: A serodiagnosis of H. pylori infection using native strains was developed. The difference in the immune response between children with RAP and control subjects suggests that RAP occurs during the acute phase of H. pylori infection. Our results also suggest that urease is a poor immunogen.

“…As childhood is the time of high risk for H. pylori acquisition [10–13] and RAP is a common health problem among children, H. pylori has been postulated as an important etiologic factor for RAP. In fact, several studies have shown that the prevalence of H. pylori infection was up to 81% among children with RAP [23,27–29]. Although we found no difference in the overall prevalence of H. pylori between asymptomatic children and children with RAP, we did find a striking difference in the epidemiologic patterns among both groups.…”
