Objective The revised Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQR) was developed to measure the quality of life of patients with fibromyalgia in randomized controlled trials and routine care. The purpose of this study was to translate and adapt the FIQR from English to Chinese, and to examine the validity and reliability of the Chinese version of the FIQR (CFIQR). Methods Following the translation of the FIQR, fibromyalgia patients from 6 centers were recruited and completed the CFIQR, the validated Chinese version of the Medical Outcome Study Short Form 36 Health Survey (SF‐36) and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). In this study, Cronbach's alpha coefficient, test–retest reliability and item total correlation were used for evaluating external and internal reliability; and criterion and structural validity were evaluated. Results A total of 200 fibromyalgia patients completed the study. The internal consistency was excellent (Cronbach's alpha .90, .88, .88 and .93 for function, overall impact, symptoms scales and total score, respectively; item‐total correlations from .25 to .83.) Test–retest reliability levels of the CFIQR total and subscale scores were strong correlation (intraclass correlation coefficient >0.75). Furthermore, there were significant correlations between the 3 subscale and the total score of the CFIQR and the SF‐36, as well as the CFIQR and the BDI, by criterion validity (P < .01). Confirmatory factor analysis gave an acceptable value for structural validity according to the 3‐factor structures of function, overall impact and symptoms. Conclusions The CFIQR is a valid and reliable instrument for both clinical practice and research purposes with Chinese speakers globally. [http://clinicaltrials.gov: NCT03381131].

Background: Numerous studies have been conducted to evaluate the frequency of hypovitaminosis D in patients with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) and its association with FMS symptoms. This study aimed at assessing the effect of hypovitaminosis D on the symptoms and quality of life of patients with fibromyalgia. Methods: A total of 74 FMS patients with hypovitaminosis D were randomly assigned into group A (Trazodone 25 mg at bedtime + vitamin D 50 000 IU weekly) and group B (Trazodone 25 mg at bedtime + placebo). Serum vitamin D level, Widespread Pain Index (WPI), Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) were used at the beginning of the treatment and 4 and 8 weeks post treatment. Results: Significant improvements were observed in WPI, FIQ, and PSQI scores in both groups. Moreover, combination of vitamin D and Trazodone resulted in significant improvement of SF-36 scores compared to Trazodone therapy. Improvement in pain-related indices including the WPI and the physical component score (PCS) fraction of SF-36 was more noticeable in vitamin D/Trazodone combination therapy. Conclusion: This study suggests that vitamin D supplementation has significant therapeutic benefits in the management of FMS, especially in pain reduction of patients with fibromyalgia. According to our results, a combination of vitamin D supplements and a conventional antidepressant, when given to vitamin D-deficient fibromyalgia patients, could significantly improve both physical and psychological symptoms

Background A dysfunction of pain processing at central and peripheral levels was reported in fibromyalgia (FM). We aimed to correlate laser evoked potentials (LEPs), Sympathetic Skin Response (SSR), and clinical features in FM patients. Methods Fifty FM patients and 30 age-matched controls underwent LEPs and SSR by the right hand and foot. The clinical evaluation included FM disability (FIQ) and severity scores (WPI), anxiety (SAS) and depression (SDS) scales, and questionnaires for neuropathic pain (DN4). Results The LEP P2 latency and amplitude and the SSR latency were increased in FM group. This latter feature was more evident in anxious patients. The LEPs habituation was reduced in FM patients and correlated to pain severity scores. In a significant number of patients (32%) with higher DN4 and FIQ scores, SSR or LEP responses were absent. Conclusions LEPs and SSR might contribute to clarifying the peripheral and central nervous system involvement in FM patients.
