Validation of a Brazilian Portuguese Version of the Walking Estimated-Limitation Calculated by History (WELCH)

Abstract: BackgroundThe Walking Estimated-Limitation Calculated by History (WELCH) questionnaire has been proposed to evaluate walking impairment in patients with intermittent claudication (IC), presenting satisfactory psychometric properties. However, a Brazilian Portuguese version of the questionnaire is unavailable, limiting its application in Brazilian patients.ObjectiveTo analyze the psychometric properties of a translated Brazilian Portuguese version of the WELCH in Brazilian patients with IC.MethodsEighty-four pa… Show more

“…Subjective physical function was measured by validated versions of the WIQ (17) and WELCH questionnaire (18). The WIQ assesses self-reported ambulatory ability in 3 domains: walking distance, walking speed, and stair climbing, with each domain scored on a 0 to 100 scale, where 0 represents extreme limitation and 100 represents no difficulties walking long distances, walking rapidly, or climbing 3 stair flights, respectively.…”

The WELCH questionnaire (18) is a four-question questionnaire related to the speed at which the patient walks normally. The WELCH score ranges from 0 to 100, with zero indicating a patient who can only walk for 30 seconds when walking slowly and who usually walks much slower than relatives, friends or people of the same age without PAD.…”

“…A közelmúltban megalkotott WELCH-kérdőívet nemrégiben javasolták új, egyszerű és könnyen alkalmazható eszközként a CI-ben szenvedő betegek járóképességének felmérésére. A WELCH-kérdőívet már több nyelven validálták [23,31], Magyarországon a SHERIFFvizsgálatban alkalmaztuk először [19]. A WELCH-pontszám a 3 hónapos CIL-kezelést követően szignifikánsan nőtt, az eredmény szignifikáns korrelációt mutatott a mért járástávolságokkal -az erre vonatkozó részletes adatokat illetően utalunk a vizsgálat korábbi publikációjára [31].…”

A WELCH-kérdőív alapján mért járóképesség -a DM-betegcsoportot jellemző, korábban említett tényezők miatt -a DM-betegekben kisebb volt.…”
