Validation and reproducibility of aortic pulse wave velocity as assessed with velocity‐encoded MRI

Abstract: Purpose: To validate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) assessment of aortic pulse wave velocity (PWV MRI ) with PWV determined from invasive intra-aortic pressure measurements (PWV INV ) and to test the reproducibility of the measurement by MRI. “…The transit time was estimated from the systolic up-slope portion of the velocity waves using an automated method based on a least squares minimization technique used in previous studies for the evaluation of the effect of coarctation repair [20] and aging [21] on CMR aortic stiffness indices. Other methods based on the foot-to-foot [18] or on the cross-correlation [32] were used to estimate the transit time.
