RESUMOO Cerrado ocupa a região do planalto central do Brasil. A flora diversificada constitui rica matéria-prima para fabricação de fitoterápicos. Um dos exemplos do potencial terapêutico da vegetação do cerrado é o Caryocar brasiliense (pequi), muito utilizado como fonte de produção de fitoquímicos. Para que esses possam ser adequadamente aproveitados, é necessário o emprego de métodos específicos de extração, que visam a extração de metabólitos secundários, utilizados no tratamento de várias doenças. Destacam-se a maceração, percolação, extração por Soxhelt, infusão, decocção, extração por ultrassom e extração por fluídos supercríticos. Falhas na padronização do delineamento do processo extrativo impedem a obtenção de fitoquímicos com poder terapêutico e podem resultar em efeitos tóxicos ou inatividade das plantas medicinais. Este trabalho tem o propósito de apresentar os métodos de obtenção de extratos de plantas do cerrado para o desenvolvimento de novas terapias contra várias doenças, promovendo a valorização do Cerrado brasileiro. The highly diverse flora consists in a rich raw material for herbal medicines preparation. One of the examples of the therapeutic potential of the Cerrado vegetation is Caryocar brasiliense, known as Pequi, widely used as a source of production of herbal medicine. Specific extraction methods are required in order to obtain the secondary metabolites used to treat various diseases. The primary methods are maceration, percolation, Soxhelt extraction, infusion, decoction, ultrasound and supercritical fluids extraction. The Extraction process outlining standardization failures prevent the obtaining of therapeutic-power phytochemicals and may result in herbal medicine toxic effects or lack of biological activity. Objective: Herbal drugs are finding the new source of promising drugs for the treatment and cure of various ailments. The present research work deals with the formulation and evaluation of herbomineral formulation indicated for osteoporosis. Materials and Methods:The aqueous extract of Terminalia arjuna (ARJ), Asthisamhara (ASTM), Gokhru (GKH), Ashwagandha (ASG) and dried powder of drugs Sunthi (ST), Padmakashta (PDMS), Laksha (PLSH) and Jestamadha were prepared and formulated into a herbomineral tablet with organic calcium viz.; Godanti Bhasma (Godan) and Kukkutandatvak Bhasma (Kukk) by wet granulation. Results:The prepared tablets were evaluated for various parameters such as colour, average weight, hardness, friability and disintegration time, which were found acceptable as per pharmacopoeial specifications. The weight variation (450 mg±10%), pH (4.58), disintegration time (17 min) and hardness (1.25 kg/cm 2 ) were found within acceptable range. The quantitative estimation of calcium by atomic absorbance spectrophotometry was carried out using ethanol-water solvent extraction method and found 76.27 ± 0.439 mg/tab of elemental calcium in optimized F4 formulation. Conclusion:The developed herbomineral formulation is suitable for calcium deficiency by balancing hormonal imbalance and increases the rate of ossification of bone which helps to curing bone fracture, osteoporosis and calcium deficiency related problems.

The aim of this study was to find the optimal tablet composition with maximum content of dried fruits (Cornus mas L.). The effect of three different concentrations (12.5, 25 and 50 %) of two types of microcrystalline cellulose (Avicel ® PH 101 and Avicel ® PH 200) and three different compression pressures (20, 60 and 100 MPa) on the physical properties of tablet blends and tablets was studied. Tablets containing 50 % Avicel ® PH 101 compressed under 100 MPa were found to have the best physical properties. This combination of composition and compression pressure resulted in stable tablets even after storage under accelerated stability conditions (6 months, 40 °C and 75 % RH).Keywords: Cornus mas, microcrystalline cellulose, direct compression, accelerated stability, principal component analysis Lifestyle diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases or diabetes mellitus type 2 are gradually becoming the global centre of attention as both direct and indirect economic costs increase each year. Therefore, new approaches to preventing the onset and progression of these diseases are being implemented. Antioxidants represent a promising supplement group with proven positive effects in the prevention of lifestyle diseases (1). Less commonly used plants and herbal remedies are becoming more and more popular sources of such antioxidants (2).One of the most promising medicinal plants with a broad spectrum of antioxidants is Cornelian cherry (Cornus mas) whose medicinal effect has been known for years (3). Its antibacterial, astringent, antidiarrheal and hypolipidemic effect have been already studied (4-6). Moreover, the antidiabetic effect of Cornelian cherry, based on its antioxidant properties, has become a target of recent scientific studies (7). For these reasons, efforts have been made to process Cornelian cherry fruits into tablets without using extraction methods.
