Vaginal hysterectomy with bipolar coagulation forceps (BiClamp) as an alternative to the conventional technique

Abstract: The BiClamp technique is a good alternative to traditional hysterectomy methods as it causes lower blood loss during surgery, causes less post-operative pain and is economically more favorable for the patient and hospital.

“…Similar to the current authors' findings, electrosurgery has been reported to be safe in vaginal hysterectomy by many studies, 6,13,[18][19][20][21] when this technique is applied carefully. Accessibility to pedicles was increased by using a right-angle forceps 6 in this procedure.…”

“…Bogani et al pointed out that the patient BMI is directly proportional to the rate of complications due to hysterectomy. The higher intraoperative complication rates in our study and control groups compared with those reported in previously published studies could be explained by these factors [9,12,[14][15][16][17].…”

“…Although there are numerous papers on the technique of sealing vessels using bipolar electrosurgical device during VH also in obese patients, previous studies comparing the two techniques excluded or did not report specifically findings regarding morbidly obese patients. [11,[14][15][16][17]. There is no reliable information regarding the impact of EBVS system on surgical success in morbidly obese patients undergoing vaginal hysterectomy.…”

“…BiClamp Ò bipolar coagulation forceps has been available for open surgery procedures since 2002 [12]. Vaginal hysterectomy with BiClamp Ò represents an example of mininvasive surgery and could be a valid and cost-benefit alternative in the surgical treatment of benign gynaecologic disease [10,13]. The surgery may be performed by Kenlet's multimodal anaesthesia that consisted with an association of a general and local anaesthesia with paracervical and pudendal anaesthetic block, with a better control of a better control of pain and postoperative outcome [15,16].…”

“…Despite the more favourable outcome in transvaginal approach, surgeons have been compensated for many years more for abdominal approach [1][2][3][4]. New technologies have contributed to development of hemostatic methodology using the high frequency electrosurgery and the application in traditional surgery of bipolar currents is carrying possibility not to use threads in traditional surgical times [5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13]. BiClamp Ò bipolar coagulation forceps has been available for open surgery procedures since 2002 [12].…”
