Vacuum sealing drainage combined with naso-intestinal and gastric decompression tubes for the treatment of esophagogastrostomy neck fistula

Abstract: Objective To evaluate the clinical results of the vacuum sealing drainage (VSD) combined with a naso-intestinal nutritional tube (NIT) and a gastric decompression tube (GDT) for the treatment of esophagogastrostomy neck fistula (ENF). Methods From January 2018 to October 2020, twenty patients (13 men and 7 women, ages 46–72) with ENF secondary to esophagogastrostomy were treated with VSD combined with NIT and GDT. Technical and clinical success rat… Show more

“…Vacuum sealing drainage is widely used in clinical applications, including osteomyelitis and the management of infected and burn wounds ( 31 ). With the help of negative pressure suction and normal saline irrigation, VSD can provide sufficient drainage of inflammatory substances and promote granulation tissue.…”

“…This technique is based on the principle of negative pressure, achieving wound edge closure and drainage fluid evacuation by applying negative pressure on the wound surface. VSD technique offers several key advantages: firstly, it effectively controls wound bleeding, reducing tissue oedema and exudate accumulation [ 10 , 11 ]. Secondly, negative pressure promotes blood circulation, enhances oxygen supply within the wound, and stimulates tissue repair and regeneration.…”

“…Such malnutrition can adversely affect rehabilitation outcomes, in addition to causing a range of complications that could potentially endanger the lives of patients. [1][2][3] Early enteral nutrition has been proven to ameliorate the immunosuppressive state of critically ill patients, as well as rectify internal environment disorders such as negative nitrogen balance during acute stress periods. Furthermore, it can stimulate intestinal peristalsis, prevent displacement of intestinal flora, and circumvent enterogenous infections.…”
