V2O5 Thin Films as Nitrogen Dioxide Sensors †

Abstract: Vanadium pentoxide thin films were deposited onto insulating support by means of rf reactive sputtering from a metallic vanadium target. Argon-oxygen gas mixtures of different compositions controlled by the flow rates were used for sputtering. X-ray diffraction at glancing incidence (GIXD) and Scanning Electronic Microscopy (SEM) were used for structural and phase characterization. Thickness of the films was determined by the profilometry. It has been confirmed by GIXD that the deposited films are composed of … Show more

“…This makes it possible to create a required configuration of the spintronic device with an opposite magnetization of the electrodes to provide spin filtration and, hence, magnetoresistance [25,28,59]. A layer of vanadium oxide V 2 O 5 , whose dielectric properties [65,66] combined with high uniformity upon deposition [67] allows using it as a tunneling barrier in spintronic devices, served as the insulator.…”

“…This interest stems from the fact that the size tunability of V 2 O 5 nanoparticles offers major advantage over their bulk counterparts. The chemical and thermal stability of V 2 O 5 make it a suitable material in various applications such as electrochromic and optical switching devices, [2] catalysis, [3] cathode material for lithium-ion batteries, [4] gas sensors, [5] super capacitors, [6] and in bolometers. [7] Since many of these applications require appropriate size and size distribution.…”
