V. Clinical Survey

Abstract: During the 1953 epidemic altogether 968 cases of polimyelitis were admitted to the Stockholm Hospital for Infectious Diseases. Among these patients 633 were paralytic, i.e. 65.4 per cent. The sex distribution was almost exactly the same in the paralytic and non-paralytic groups, viz. 60 and 61 per cent male and 40 and 39 per cent female.The paralytic cuses alone will be dealt with in this chapter. The distribution by age groups and sex is tabulated below ( Table 1).
