UWE4JSF: A Model-Driven Generation Approach for Web Applications

Abstract: Abstract. Model-driven engineering is a promising approach, but there are still many hurdles to overcome. The tool UWE4JSF solves the hurdles for the model-driven development of web applications designed with UWE. It builds upon a set of models and domain specific annotationsin particular an abstract and a concrete presentation model. It is completely integrated in Eclipse, implemented as a set of plugins supporting model transformations and fully automatic code generation.

“…With regard to the implementation, UWE has a plugin called MagicUWE to be used with the CASE tool MagicDraw (Busch and Koch 2009). It is worth to mention that in (Kroiss, Koch et al 2009) the author proposes a set of plugins for Eclipse called UWE4JSF for the automatic generation of Web applications in JSF (JavaServer Faces) derived from UWE models. Navigational Development Techniques (NDT).…”

“…:" driven development process, extending the OOH methodology, In particular, Model-Driven Engineering paradigm has been applied successfully by a number of web engineering methods, namely UWE, OO-H, OOHDMDA, UWE4JSF, WebRatio, and WebML [11], [18], [7], [6], [21], [5] [14]. These methods use models to separate the platform-independent model (PIM) design of web systems from the platform-dependent (PSM) implementations as much as possible.…”

“…During our literature review of OOWS [6], OOHDM [7], UWE [8], IDM [9], WebML [10], Hera [11], and WSDM [12], we did not find references addressing form validation. Additionally, the code generators UWE4JSF [13] for UWE, OOHDMDA [14] for OOHDM, and HPG [15] for Hera, do not have form validation included. WebRatio [16] for WebML includes form validation by adding validation rules to entry units that are part of its domain-specific language (DSL).…”
