UV-Visible Spectrophotometric as a Prospective Tool in Neonatal Sepsis

Abstract: BACKGROUND: This study was aimed to employ the UV-Visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometry techniques to detect the changes in the blood of neonatal sepsis (NS) subject for a deeper understanding in the pathomechanism of NS.METHODS: The cross-sectional study was conducted from February to May 2017 in the Neonatology Division, Department of Pediatric, Ulin General Hospital/Faculty of Medicine, Lambung Mangkurat University, Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, Indonesia. Blood specimens were taken from newborns, of which 15… Show more

“…The HOSCN that produced in sepsis condition not only play role in killing the invading pathogen, but also promote a host tissue damage such as the protein oxidation. AOPP is already known as one of the oxidized protein and has been used as oxidative stress marker for several disease such as NS [23]. The AOPP level measurement in both case and control group shows in Figure 4.…”

“…This might have relation to the occurrence of EONS, since premature and LBW are risk factors for neonatal sepsis. (5,30) Increasing the risk of infection later born to eventually become neonatal sepsis lack of immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies causes premature neonates to have an immature immune system. (31,32) The median value of presepsin levels in this study was 108.33 ng/L, with minimum presepsin level was 71.43 ng/L and maximum level was 1287.76 ng/L.…”
