UV Spectrophotometric Simultaneous Determination of Paracetamol and Ibuprofen in Combined Tablets by Derivative and Wavelet Transforms

Abstract: The application of first-order derivative and wavelet transforms to UV spectra and ratio spectra was proposed for the simultaneous determination of ibuprofen and paracetamol in their combined tablets. A new hybrid approach on the combined use of first-order derivative and wavelet transforms to spectra was also discussed. In this application, DWT (sym6 and haar), CWT (mexh), and FWT were optimized to give the highest spectral recoveries. Calibration graphs in the linear concentration ranges of ibuprofen (12–32 … Show more

“…Derivatization was performed to increase the separation between the peaks, as same as the other spectroscopy methods when some spectrums are overlapped [32][33][34][35][36]. The obtained transmittance spectrum was changed into absorption then was derivatized to facilitate appropriate peak selection.…”

“…First, standard spectrum measurements were performed at concentrations of 0.1 to 1%. The obtained transmittance spectrum was then converted to absorbance, which next was derived to determine the corresponding peak as the base for plotting calibration curve [32,33]. From the overlaid spectrum as shown in fig.…”

“…But few methods have been reported for the determination of flucloxacillin-sodium in binary mixture with ampicillin-trihydrate ( Figure 1b); including spectrophotometry 19 , LC 20 and UPLC-MS/MS 21 In this paper, four different spectrophotometric methods were applied for determination of flucloxacillin-sodium in binary mixture with ampicillintrihydrate; univariate spectrophotometric constant center method [22][23][24][25][26] , and three multivariate chemometric methods named; Savitsky-Golay filters [27][28][29][30][31][32] , continuous wavelet transform of ratio spectra 27,[29][30][31][32][33] and wavelet transform of first derivative of ratio spectra 27,[34][35][36][37][38] .…”

“…Literature survey revealed many methods with different analytical techniques for individual or simultaneous determination of PCT in different sample types. The technique includes voltammetry [9][10][11][12][13][14] , CE [15][16] , TLC [17][18] , HPLC [19][20][21] , RP-HPLC [22][23] , LC-MS 24 , LC-MS-MS [25][26][27][28] , GC 29 , FTIR 30 , spectrofluorimetry [31][32][33][34] , kinetic spectrophotometry [35][36] , derivative spectrophotometry [37][38] , indirect spectrophotometry 39 , direct spectrophotometry [40][41][42][43][44][45] etc. The techniques other than spectrophotometry require lengthy procedures, highly sophisticated analytical instruments and some amount of the organic solvents contributing towards high cost of the analysis.…”
