Utilizing product configuration systems for supporting the critical parts of the engineering processes

Abstract: -Engineering-To-Order (ETO) companies have to respond to increasing demands to provide highly customized and complex products with high quality at competitive prices. In order to respond to those challenges ETO companies have started to implement product configuration systems (PCS) to increase efficiency of the specification processes. As a result to complex products and processes in ETO companies, PCS are usually gradually implemented where only subsets of the products are included to support specific process… Show more

“…With regard to the first contribution, the literature includes many studies on ETO companies that have adopted advanced sales configurators (e.g., Christensen & Brunoe, 2018;Haug et al, 2011;Haug et al, 2019b;Kristjansdottir et al, 2016;Orsvärn & Bennick, 2014;Petersen, 2007). The literature has also explored the application of PCSs to support ETO processes (Christensen & Brunoe, 2018;Kristianto et al, 2015;L Zeng, 2015;Petersen, 2008), as well as discussed how to integrate PCSs with CRM, PDM and ERP systems (Forza & Salvador, 2008;Forza & Salvador, 2007;Myrodia et al, 2019).…”

“…Studies have cited numerous examples of ETO companies that have adopted advanced sales configurators (Christensen & Brunoe, 2018;Haug et al, 2011;Haug, Shafiee, & Hvam, 2019b;Kristjansdottir, Shafiee, & Hvam, 2016;Orsvärn & Bennick, 2014;Petersen, 2007). Furthermore, several articles have explored the application of PCSs to support ETO processes (Christensen & Brunoe, 2018;Kristianto, Helo, & Jiao, 2015;Zeng, Tseng & Lu (2006); Petersen, 2008) and discussed how to integrate PCSs with customer relationship management (CRM), product data management (PDM) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems (Forza & Salvador, 2007Myrodia, Randrup, & Hvam, 2019).…”
