To reduce fossil fuel usage and promote eco-friendly energy, PT Semen Padang uses Alternative Fuels (AF) instead of coal. This study focuses on projecting the use of solid waste as AF from 2023-2030. It compares the waste's calorific value and proximate analysis with standards, calculates its potential use based on the Thermal Substitution Rate (TSR), and plans the necessary equipment. The tested waste includes Spent Bleaching Earth (SBE), rice husk, calliandra, palm fiber, and sawdust. The AF's characterization follows ASTM D 2015 for calorific value and ASTM 3172-3175 for proximate analysis. Results are compared to the RDF Specification Guidelines of 2017. The largest volume of waste used as AF is SBE (35,060 tons/year), while the smallest is 397 tons/year in stage III (2029-2030). Rice husk, calliandra, and sawdust meet the standards for AF in cement production. SBE doesn't meet the calorific value and ash content standard, and palm fiber doesn't meet the moisture content standard. The potential use of solid waste as AF reaches PT Semen Padang's target of 5.792% from 2023-2027. The necessary equipment for waste utilization as AF includes a shredder, dryer, mixing machine, and pyrolysis reactor.

Coconut shell contains several components of biomass including cellulose, lignin, and pentosan, which can be used in the form of charcoal as a bioabsorbent. Sludge waste is a residue formed as a by-product of wastewater treatment at a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). which emits odors that can disturb local residents. This study aimed to deodorize ice cream slurry waste using coconut shell charcoal and activated carbon as the odor adsorbent. The ratio of each adsorbent and ice cream waste was based on the preliminary experiment, namely 1:1, 1:3, 1:5, 1:6, and 1:7. The measurement parameters for the sludge were odor value, pH, temperature, and water content which were measured daily. Ammonia and sulfide levels were measured using the titration method, while protein levels were determined using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Odor reduction in sludge waste mixed with activated carbon as the adsorbent was better than that with coconut shell charcoal; by which the optimum mass ratio was 1:3 with a decrease of 97.13% that was obtained within seven days. The ammonia levels in the sludge waste decreased from 10,276 mg/kg to 308 mg/kg by the use of coconut shell charcoal with a mass ratio of 1:1 and to 252 mg/kg by the use of activated carbon with a mass ratio of 1:1 at the end of the experiment. The sulfide content in the sludge waste decreased from 1.215 mg/L to 0.0483 mg/L in the sample with coconut shell charcoal as an adsorbent with a mass ratio of 1:1 and to 0.0483 mg/L in samples with activated carbon adsorbent ratio of 1:1 at the end of the experiment.

The objective of the study was to study the effects of spent bleaching earth (SBE) and deoiled bleaching earth (DBE) filler-based NPK fertilizers on the agronomical characteristics of soybean as a model crop. A field experiment was arranged in a single factor of randomized complete block design (RCBD) with four blocks as replications. The treatments were 1) NPK fertilizer with 10% of BC (control), 2) NPK fertilizer with 5% of BC + 5% of SBE, and 3) NPK fertilizer with 5% BC + 5% DBE. The variables observed were the levels of heavy metals in leaf tissue and the agronomic characteristics of soybean plants. The observations were made on several variables of agronomical crop characters. The data were then analyzed with analysis of variance (ANOVA) at 5% levels and continued with the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test if there were differences among treatments. The results confirmed that the SBE and DBE materials could partly replace the filler components in NPK fertilizers, which has been proven to have the same impact on the agronomical characteristics of soybean in the form of leaf area, root volume, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per plant, and seed yield per hectar.
