Abstract

MAX phases are ternary compounds with both metallic and ceramic properties. 1 Ceramic material consisting of MAX phases are relatively ductile and machinable, yet also heat-tolerant, strong and lightweight. 1,2 Among the MAX phases reported so far, aluminum containing Ti 2 AlC and Ti 3 AlC 2 , are two of the most lightweight and oxidation resistant. 2-6 These two compositions show promise for many applications especially in the field of high temperature heat resisting materials. 4 Composites of Ti 2 AlC with other ceramics, such as Ti-Al, TiC and Al 2 O 3 , have been investigated using temperature
