Utilization of electron beam irradiated Jatropha kernel meal in the diet ofLabeo rohita(Hamilton, 1822) fingerlings

Abstract: Defatted Jatropha kernel meal (DJKM) was irradiated through electron beam radiation at 25 kGy (IJKM). After irradiation, PEs and phytate were decreased by 36.67% and 55.27%, respectively, with slight reduction in total hydrolysed amino acids in IJKM. A 45‐day feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the utilization of irradiated Jatropha kernel meal (IJKM) in the diet of rohu (Labeo rohita) fingerlings. Five isonitrogenous (300 g/kg CP) and isoenergetic (15 MJ/kg GE) diets such as T0 (control, without IJKM), T5… Show more

“…The intestinal length (IL) and intestinal weight (IW) were used to calculate intestinal length index (ILI) and intestinal somatic index (ISI) according toJiang, Lin, Yang, Jiang, and Zhou (2009). The survival rate (SR) was calculated according to a previous study(Sanap et al, 2018).All the results were expressed as mean ± standard error (SD), and transformed if necessary after testing assumptions of normality and homogeneity of variance, and subjected to an analysis of variance (ANOVA) using the software SPSS18.0 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). Mean differences were considered significant at a p < 0.05.…”

“…One of the unexplored groups of protein sources is the non‐edible oilseeds. In the last few years, a significant number of protein‐rich non‐edible seed products have been tested in fish or shrimp feed either as partial or complete replacer of fishmeal or soybean meal (Fawole et al, ; Harter et al, ; Kumar, Makkar, & Becker, ; Phulia, Sardar, Sahu, Fawole, et al, ; Phulia, Sardar, Sahu, Sanap, et al, ; Phulia et al, ; Sanap et al, ; Shamna et al, , ).…”

“…However, the use of soybean meal in aquafeed may not be sustainable in the future due to its high demand and competition for human use and terrestrial animal feed sectors. As a result, the price of SBM has escalated sharply (Azaza et al, ; FAO, ; Phulia, Sardar, Sahu, Fawole, et al, ; Phulia et al, ; Sanap et al, ; Shamna et al, , ) and is expected to remain high in future. Moreover, prices of the conventional feedstuffs such as groundnut oil cake and mustard oil cake have been increased to a level that their inclusion in aquafeed at a required quantity makes the feed‐based aquaculture less profitable (Njidda & Isidahomen, ; Phulia, Sardar, Sahu, Sanap, et al, ; Sanap et al, ).…”
