Utilization of Cellulose fromLuffa cylindricaFiber as Binder in Acetaminophen Tablets

Abstract: Cellulose is an important pharmaceutical excipient. This study aimed to produce cellulose from the fiber ofLuffa cylindricaas an effective binder in the formulation of acetaminophen tablets. This study was divided into three phases, namely, (I) preparation of cellulose fromLuffa cylindrica, (II) determination of the powder properties of the LC-cellulose, and (III) production and evaluation of acetaminophen of the tablets produced using LC-cellulose as binder. The percentage yield of LC-cellulose was 61%. The v… Show more

“…Use value is an important index to identify the plant species which are extensively used among indigenous communities [117]. In our case, use values ranged from 0.02 to 0.93 (Table 2) [118], which can be attributed with the fact that they are the first choice of the traditional healers for the treatment of ailments and local inhabitants are familiar with these plants [58,119]. Species with low use values were, C. dolicostachya (0.02), E. persicus (0.04), P. repens (0.05), P. lanatum (0.06) and T. racemosus (0.06).…”

“…Species with low use value were, Chloris dolicostachya (0.02), Enneapogon persicus (0.04), Panicum repens (0.05), Pennisetum lansatum (0.06) and Tragus racemosus (0.06).This might be due to their less availability but they are not necessarily less effective [57]. These plants can be employed inthe development of human pharmaceuticals [119].…”

“…MCC is a biodegradable, purified, white, odorless, fine, non-fibrous, and partially depolymerized crystalline powder, usually isolated from cellulose through the hydrolysis process. 17 However, no studies have reported on the effect of aging on the flexural properties of MCC-reinforced PMMA. The null hypothesis of this study was that after thermal cycling, there is no difference between the flexural properties of MCC-reinforced PMMA denture base resin compared to conventional PMMA.…”
