Abstract: Use of chrmical or hiologicaljsh silugr as feed for Chrysichthys nigrodigitatus (Bugridue). These studies were undertaken to test the nutritional value of marine fish offal products prescrvcd by different silage nlethods and used as an ingredient in african catfish (Clzry.sichthys nigrodigitutus) feeds. The first experiment concerned cooked tuna wastc silage preparcd by addition of 3% formic acid. After incubation for 16 days, a desirablc and stable pH of 4.03 was obtained. The hydrolysate, containing 66.7% of … Show more

“…The beneficial effect of pre-hydrolysis on the utilization of dietary protein was also reported in goldfish Carassius auratus (Szlaminska et al, 1991), carp Cyprinus carpio (Carvalho et al, 1997) and yellow croaker Pseudosciaena crocea (Tang et al, 2008). This positive effect may be attributed to a better absorption efficiency of the hydrolysates (Cissé et al, 1995;Ouellet et al, 1997). However, it has to be noticed that all those hydrolysates have been produced under mild procedures in order to preserve their nutritional, functional and organoleptic characteristics.…”

“…Acid treatment corresponds to a direct addition of organic or inorganic acids or mixtures of both (Green et al, 1988;Cissé et al, 1995). Fermentation occurs when a fermentable carbohydrate substrate and a supply of lactic acid bacteria are added to chopped fish Leroi, 2010).…”
