“…They found an incidence of subsequently diagnosed LMS of 0.3%. Other studies report occult LMS prevalence as 0.02–0.49% . When including menorrhagia as well as fibromas as an indication for hysterectomy in Norway, the actual incidence of occult LMS in laparoscopic hysterectomies was 0.08% during 2000–2012.…”

“…The risk of occult ULMS is between 0.12% and 2.3% for women undergoing minimally invasive hysterectomy or myomectomy for benign indications. [ 4 , 7 , 8 ] All women with uterine smooth muscle tumors carry the risk of developing ULMS; however, the distribution of occult ULMS throughout overall ULMS, as well as all uterine smooth muscle tumors, is not clearly understood due to limited literature. In this context, the objective of this study was to obtain additional data by calculating the risk of overall and occult ULMS during gynecological procedures, which would improve the accuracy of such models and better inform patients.…”

“…The median age of uterine LMS is older than 50 years, but about 20% cases were between 19 and 47 years . Uterine leiomyoma is a very common disease, but the incidence of LMS is reported to be 0.129–0.18% in presumed leiomyomas . In women who desire to preserve fertility, myomectomy would be usually chosen for the surgical treatment of leiomyoma, and it is essential to differentiate LMS from leiomyoma.…”
