Uterine Factor Infertility, a Systematic Review

Abstract: Uterine factor infertility (UFI) is defined as a condition resulting from either a complete lack of a uterus or a non-functioning uterus due to many causes. The exact prevalence of UFI is currently unknown, while treatments to achieve pregnancy are very limited. To evaluate the prevalence of this condition within its different causes, we carried out a worldwide systematic review on UFI. We performed research on the prevalence of UFI and its various causes throughout the world, according to the PRISMA criteria.… Show more

“…1,2 Uterine factor infertility of any severity affects approximately 3-5% of the general population 3 and represents 2.1 to 16.7% of women with female infertility. 4 It is estimated that the rate prevalence of AUFI in the UK is around 12 000 women of fertile age. 5 For those women who desire motherhood, uterus transplantation provides an avenue for both gestational and genetic motherhood.…”

“…Similarly, the cause can commonly be obstruction of the tract, testicular failure of spermatogenesis, poor sperm quality, or endocrinal in males [ 3 ]. Uterine factor infertility (UFI) is defined as an absent uterus (absolute UFI) or as a nonfunctional uterus (non-absolute UFI) [ 6 ]. Absolute UFI can be due to congenital absence of the uterus or due to a hysterectomy later [ 6 ].…”
