“…These findings are in keeping with previous studies that examined older adults with cognitive impairments [7][8][9][10][11]. In the psychiatry population, several studies have examined the psychometric properties of QOL questionnaires, but these studies primarily include outpatients [4,26,27] or less disabled inpatients [28][29][30], and thus only examine those with a relatively narrow spectrum of symptoms, functional status, and cognitive impairment.…”

“…A number of studies have begun to demonstrate that older adults with severe cognitive impairment are not capable of completing a subjective QOL assessment reliably and validly [7][8][9][10][11], but only a few studies validate QOL questionnaires in psychiatric patients with a broad spectrum of disabilities [12,13]. The aim of this study, therefore, was to clarify the measurement limit of a QOL questionnaire by examining data quality, reliability, and validity in psychiatric patients.…”

“…This probably suggests higher reassurance and feeling of safety in subjects having continuous and more complex care provided for them, despite their older age and poorer health status. Differences in QOL level were clearly evident with both Euroqol 5D and NHP, supporting their validity and usefulness in older populations [41][42][43]. In contrast, SWLS did not differ among the three populations studied, indicating its limited application in QOL research in the elderly.…”

“…dispositional optimism, health locus of control and self-efficacy, with valid and reliable [41][42][43] measures of QOL in different populations of older people. As expected, dispositional optimism was the lowest in the long-term care home group.…”
