Using the Breeder genetic algorithm to optimize a multiple regression analysis model used in prediction of the mesiodistal width of unerupted teeth

Abstract: For the prediction of the unerupted canine and premolars mesiodistal size, have been proposed different variants of multiple linear regression equations (MLRE). These are based on the amount of the upper and lower permanent incisors with a tooth of the lateral support. The aim of the present study was to develop a method for optimization of MLRE, using a genetic algorithm for determining a set of coefficients that minimizes the prediction error for the sum of permanent premolars and canines dimensions from a g… Show more

“…To solve this problem, many researchers tried to propose alternative techniques rather than least square estimates for nonlinear regression analysis [38,39]. Among them, Price and Shafii [38] and Stoica and Boitor [40] proposed the GA for least square estimates. The implementation of the GA is not only available for the estimation of the regression parameters but also involved in many forecasting studies [41][42][43].…”

“…The added processes involve removing the chromosome with the lowest fitness value from the current population. The breeder GA [43,44] chooses the fittest chromosomes with the principle of breeding before performing genetic operators. The cellular GA [45] performs the mutation operator on only one of the best chromosomes, which is selected from the crossed chromosomes.…”
