Using templates and linguistic patterns to define process performance indicators

Abstract: Process performance management (PPM) aims at measuring, monitoring and analysing the performance of business processes (BPs), in order to check the achievement of strategic and operational goals and to support decision making for their optimisation. PPM is based on process performance indicators (PPIs), so having an appropriate definition of them is crucial. One of the main problems of PPIs definition is to express them in an unambiguous, complete, understandable, traceable and verifiable manner. In practice, … Show more

“…Such a transformation requires considerable time and effort from a number of resources. To illustrate the causes of this, consider the situation we observed during our extensive research collaboration with the Andalusian Health Service [1,235,236]. There, the IT department received requests to measure PPIs for all organizational processes, as specified by other departments in natural language.…”

“…Due to these links, the PPINOT metamodel can be used to define structured PPIs whose values can be computed in an automated manner. Specifically, we base the templates for our approach on the templates and associated linguistic structures defined in [236]. In Section 6.2.1, we introduce the slots that correspond to the different semantic concepts that constitute the PPI templates.…”

“…Nevertheless, notations like the one presented in La Rosa et al (2011) allow for defining configurable process models considering control flow, data and resources. These three perspectives are also supported by a template-based approach for modelling process performance indicators (del-Río-Ortega et al 2016). …”

“…Automated text analysis programs, linguistic patterns and templates to support decision-making for their optimization are an interesting and prospective field of sociolinguistics and political linguistics. The automated processing of definitions of the terms, which are used during the interaction and mutual influence of the discourse of science and the public authorities, is current trend in information technologies for sociolinguistics [8]. Scientists try to develop formats of information which are understandable to all stakeholders from various professional spheres [9].…”
