Using SLA Mapping to Increase Market Liquidity

Abstract: Research into computing resource markets has mainly considered the allocative fairness of market mechanisms. It has not been discussed how a large variety of resource types influences the market liquidity. Markets containing large numbers of buyers and sellers for heterogeneous resources suffer from a low likelihood of matching offers and requests. Traders therefore have the high risk of not being able to trade resources. We suggest a solution that derives SLA templates from a large number of heterogeneous SLA… Show more

“…The main tasks accomplished by DCDM are: process of publishing of CLA templates (consumer and provider); C3-aware deployment of applications (described in Section 3.1); mapping of DSLs to CLAs (as described in Section 4.1); brokering between consumer and provider by matching requested and provided CLAs, i.e., CLA-CLA matching; Business Process Management (BPM); and data fragmentation and execution (as described in Section 4.2). For publishing of CLAs we consider advanced approaches beyond typical SLA repositories, as for example such approach presented in [18], in order to facilitate liquid Cloud markets. CLA-CLA matching considers matching of providers and consumers in terms of requested and provided level of security, trust, and privacy.…”

“…Due to the large variety in services and vast number of service providers, the Cloud market is currently fragmented and inefficient [3], [4]. To counteract this issue, electronic marketplaces for trading Cloud services were introduced with the goal of facilitating trading in the heterogeneous environment.…”

“…One approach that deals with this problem is the SLA mapping technique. SLA mappings are documents used to bridge the differences between two differing SLAs [12], [13], [3], [14]. Unlike ontologies, SLA mappings are dynamic and allow users to keep their SLAs that may already be used in other processes [3].…”

“…For the successful implementation of the Cloud computing paradigm, well-developed software and hardware resource markets are fundamental [2]. They allow millions of customers worldwide to buy and sell consumable services at any time of the day and from any geographical location that has Internet access.…”
