Using PLS-SEM to analyze challenges hindering success of green building projects in Vietnam

Abstract: PurposeThe green building (GB) market in Vietnam is growing quite slowly. Project stakeholders are facing very much undefined difficulty to gain success of GB projects. This study focused on investigation of the critical challenges the general contractors are facing in executing GB projects in Vietnam.Design/methodology/approachThe study conducted a literature review and three in-depth interviews to define 31 potential challenges hindering success of GB projects. Data was collected from 163 respondents through… Show more

“…The PLS-SEM also uses indicators such as Standardized Root Mean Square Residual (SRMR), Normed Fit Index (NFI), and root mean squared (RMS_theta) to evaluate the appropriateness of the overall model. The SRMR value ranged from 0 to 1, and the SRMR value in the study was less than 0.08, indicating it fit the model (Do, Nguyen, Le, & Ta, 2020;Hu & Bentler, 1998;Tran & Huang, 2022). The NFI value also ranged from 0 to 1; when the NFI value is large, better performance will be obtained.…”

“…Table 2 represented the results of exploratory factor analysis, the remained items’ factor loadings of independent and dependent variables were higher 0.5, while all KMO values were over 0.6. Thus, all these items were appropriate for further analyses (Tran and Huang, 2021). The CFA reported a fit index of the measurement model: χ 2 (1,289) = 2,489.836; χ 2 /df = 1.932 < 3; p < 0.001; GFI = 0.809 > 0.8; CFI = 0.929 > 0.9; TLI = 0.922 > 0.9 and RMSEA = 0.048 < 0.05 (Hair et al , 2020; Tran and Huang, 2021) (Figure 2).…”

All of the t -tests of the items were significant at the 0.001 degree, and all the factor loadings of the items exceeded 0.5.…”

“…The approach is not only suitable for testing theoretical frameworks from a forecasting perspective [64], but also for measuring the hypothesized relationships in structural models [65]. According to Tran [66], PLS-SEM is more suitable if the phenomenon under study is relatively new, and the measurement model is newly developed and has not been previously validated. Based on the above characteristics, PLS-SEM was chosen for the model measurement and structural model evaluation since this study focused on predicting consumer purchase intention toward Nike sustainable sneakers, the model included mediating and intervening variables, and the combination of environmental protection and sneakers is a relatively new topic that has emerged recently.…”
