The aim of this study is to improve the quality of service (QoS) for peer-to-peer (P2P) streaming media system with the proposed peer selection strategy. P2P technology is promising for large scale streaming media files distribution over the Internet. As peers contribute their resources over multipeer transmission paths, it is particularly challenging to achieve consistently high streaming QoS such as low start-up delay, low jitter, low packet loss ratio, and high bandwidth assurance. Recently, there are a lot of researchers studying peer selection strategy in peer-to-peer streaming system. In this paper, a novel P2P streaming media peer selection strategy based on mobile agent and trust (MATPS) is proposed. The proposed approach is compared with bandwidth first peer selection strategy (BFPSS), GridMedia's peer selection (GridPS), trust-based peer selection strategy (TrBPS), and SmartPeerCast peer selection strategy (SPCPS), and the simulation results show that the proposed strategy improves the streaming QoS.

Managing Large-Scale Service Deployment

Abstract. Abstract overlay networks have been considered enablers of efficient management for decentralized, large scale service deployments. A Content Delivery Network (CDN) is an example of service falling within this category. The result of our research is WebDMF, a management framework for distributed services based on the Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM) family of specifications. Abstract design, combined with a middleware layer of entities called "Representatives", makes WebDMF suitable for the management of a variety of services. Details related to the management of each particular service are detached from the representative logic. This paper discusses how WebDMF can be used for the management of CDNs. A WBEM provider resides on each host participating in the service deployment and implements CDNspecific operations. WebDMF representatives decentralize, unify and coordinate those on a deployment scale. Preliminary measurements on an emulated network topology are also presented as an indication of the solution's viability and scalability.

It is known that a group-based system provides better performance and more scalability to the whole system while decreasing the communication traffic. Group-based architectures in Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) could be a good solution to the need of scalability. There is not any group-based CDN in existence, although we proposed in reference [1] a group-based system to interconnect CDNs of different providers. This article shows a Content Delivery Network based on grouping surrogates. We will show the benefits of our proposal and its application environment. We will describe the protocol developed to connect surrogates from the same group and from different groups. The neighbor selection algorithm is based on their proximity in order to provide lower content distribution times and trying to assure Quality of Service (QoS) by connecting to surrogates with higher available capacity. Real measurements of the network control traffic and of the performance of the surrogates will be shown. Finally we will show the differences with the system proposed in reference [1].
