Using Off-the-Shelf Medical Devices for Biomedical Signal Monitoring in a Telemedicine System for Emergency Medical Services

Abstract: Abstract-In order to study new methods of telemedicine usage in the context of emergency medical services, researchers need to prototype integrated telemedicine systems. To conduct a one-year trial phase-intended to study a new application of telemedicine in German emergency medical services-we used off-the-shelf medical devices and software to realize real-time patient monitoring within an integrated telemedicine system prototype. We demonstrate its feasibility by presenting the integrated real-time patient m… Show more

“…The contemporarily subsisting system is available for smartphones and contrivances with the Android operating system only and doesn't fortify other software(ios, windows, etc) [1], A system that is in today market is more prone to security and privacy issues, which can be overcome by the implementation of this project [2], if we utilize the AMPED sensor to detect the heart rate, UART and HC-OS module there will be an issue cognate to platform dependency, security and privacy issues that can facilely tackle in this project [3], Intricacy in the integration of the contrivance has been reduced [4], Distance is the parameter which plays a paramount role in a wireless system which is very less range in the subsisting system that can be overcome in this project [5].…”

“…In emergency medical services (EMS), system can send an emergency request when a patient is in a critical situation. There are several EMS available where the emergency request (instant message)/ multimedia services (transmission of voice and video calls) can be sent via the cellular networks (4G/LTE,3G) [2], [3].…”

“…There are similar works in the literature, as in Gregorczyk et al (2012) that uses SOA to integrate medical devices and systems in operating rooms, or Thelen et al (2015) that uses medical standards to integrate emergency medical devices. However, this work is different from the ones mentioned above because it addresses implementation issues not addressed in these articles, such as details on the protocol of the exchanged messages by the architecture or the way in which data is stored, which may make it easier to use the architecture.…”

Besides, only Thelen et al (2015) presents quantitative validation data.…”
