Using NVivo™ for Literature Reviews: The Eight Step Pedagogy (N7+1)

Abstract: While a literature review is a necessary milestone to be completed by all researchers in a timely and efficient manner, it is often one of the most difficult aspects of the research journey. Moreover, traditional approaches often leave novice researchers, to struggle with the conceptualisation of their literature review, now complicated by the overwhelming quantity of research available online. This paper presents a rationale the use of Qualitative Data Analysis Software (QDAS) programs for literature reviews.… Show more

“…Then convergence and verification of findings are carried out, data analysis is carried out at the final stage after the completion of the triangulation procedure. The data analysis stage uses the Nvivo 12 Plus application with the aim of making it easier to find derived elements or criteria based on the research objectives, [24]. The steps taken are (1) auto code analysis is used to automatically find common themes; (2) the selection of themes from the results of the auto code based on the research objectives, namely the impact of gamification on learning outcomes; (3) code consolidation where the similarity of meaning is grouped according to the impact of gamification on learning outcomes; and (4) submission of data to map elements of the impact of gamification on learning outcomes.…”

“…The preliminary data in question is collected through interviews with Malay figures in Riau Province. Secondary data is obtained from the various online news media content, government websites, books, journals, reports, proceedings Figure 2 is an analysis scheme through Nvivo 12 plus using the features of group analysis, concept map analysis, and crosstab analysis (Jackson & Bazeley, 2019;O'neill et al, 2018). The study is carried out in three stages: First, data analysis with the group analysis feature to determine the informants' perceptions of existing concepts (nodes) and conduct analysis through the concept map feature in mapping the informants' thoughts on concepts and propositions based on variables.…”

“…Stage 3: The authors analysed all 81 documents using the qualitative data analysis software NVivo version 12.5.0 [37] to identify some of the events and activities underpinning the process of recognising, safeguarding, and promoting food heritage. This process identified three main groups of dynamics underpinning food heritagisation, namely "recognition", "legitimisation", and "valorisation".…”
