“…The Geotechnical Engineering III course provides a unique opportunity to tailor geotechnical engineering to specific issues in the geographic area. For example, in Puerto Rico, the undergraduate geotechnical curriculum includes a natural hazards course (Perdomo and Pando 2014). This area is highly susceptible to natural hazards such as hurricanes, extreme weather events, earthquakes, tsunamis and floods (Perdomo and Pando 2014).…”

“…Table I summarizes the above mentioned natural disasters and other related dependencies. The magnitudes of physical damages and loss of lives are based on 21st century statistics and are based on the occurrence of a single disaster (unless otherwise noted) [1][2][3] By looking at the progressive statistics of the natural disasters, one can notice recent sharp decrease in damages and fatalities due to the fact that governments have been implementing measures to reduce such impacts. Due to the massive impacts for physical damages and fatalities and interrelated connections, tsunamis and earthquakes will be further considered in this article and the novel wireless disaster management system will also be optimized for these two natural disasters.…”
