The user interface is an influential element in software applications. A well-designed user interface will potentially increase the usability of software applications. Therefore, user interface designers should deliberate when considering which approach and method to implement for designing user interfaces. Design thinking is currently a widely followed approach in user interface design practices. Hence, this study aimed to explore research trends and current practices of design thinking approach for user interface design. This study employed a systematic literature review following the Kitchenham method. This study found 39 articles deemed relevant to the design thinking approach. In general, our study found five common stages broadly mentioned in the articles, i.e., empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test. The most widely practiced method during those five stages is interview, user persona, brainstorming, user interface, and usability testing. However, there is no consensus on what kind of stage(s) and which method(s) should be employed when following the design thinking approach for user interface design. Therefore, it will depend on the designer's decision in choosing which stage(s) and their related method(s) will be employed.

Perkembangan Teknologi Informasi (TI) telah menjadi bagian penting dari operasional organisasi. Salah satu teknologi informasi yang berkembang saat ini adalah teknologi website. Salah satu organisasi yang juga memanfaatkan teknologi website adalah Balai Pengembangan Sumber Daya Manusia Penelitian (BPSDMP) Kominfo Surabaya. BPSDMP Kominfo Surabaya menyediakan Website e-library sebagai sarana penyebaran informasi untuk meningkatkan kemampuan SDM yang dimiliki. Namun dibalik tujuan tersebut terdapat fakta bahwa pengunjung website tersebut sangat rendah. Salah satu faktor penyebab pegawai enggan berkunjung adalah karena tampilan website yang ada saat ini belum menerapkan desain yang interaktif sehingga menyulitkan pengguna. Oleh karena itu penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melakukan redesign terhadap website e-library agar sesuai dengan harapan pengguna. Dalam pelaksanaan penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan User Centered Design. Hasil redesign dari website e-library menunjukkan bahwa desain system yang baru lebih efektif dan friendly sehingga memudahkan pengguna dalam mencari informasi pada website e-library terbaru. Pernyataan ini di dapatkan dari proses pengujian prototype kepada 5 pegawai BPSDMP yang merupakan pengguna website e-library. Dari temuan ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa pendekatan user centered design merupakan pendekatan yang efektif dalam proses perancangan system. Hal ini dikarenakan pendekatan yang terpusat pada harapan pengguna membantu para pengembang system dalam mendesain system sesuai dengan fungsi yang diharapkan oleh pengguna..

The ability to read and count is essential to be mastered by every student to foster future academic and professional success. However, students with dyslexia have limited ability to read and count. Using learning apps can help children with dyslexia develop reading and counting skills. User interface design is an essential aspect of application development. The research aims to develop a user interface design for learning applications for dyslexic children. User interface design development methods use design thinking approaches that have levels of empathy, define, ideate, prototype, and test. The development of user interface design of learning applications also involves gamification and multi-sensory to help improve students’ understanding of dyslexia when using applications. Evaluation of user interface design using the System Usability Scale (SUS) method yields a total average value of 82. This shows that the user interface design of learning applications for students with dyslexia is acceptable and suitable for users.
