User equipment geolocation depended on long-term evolution signal-level measurements and timing advance

Abstract: <p>A new approach is described for investigating the accuracy of positioning active long-term evolution (LTE) users. The explored approach is a network-based method and depends on signal level measurements as well as the coverage of the serving cell. In a two-dimensional coordinate system, the algorithm simultaneously applies LTE measured data with a combination of a basic prediction model to locate the mobile device’s user. Furthermore, we introduce a unique method that combines timing advance (TA) and … Show more

“…Another basic optimization solution is a configurable time window placed after a successful emergency call. Furthermore, this also includes that the Network will issue no handover request in any other UMTS cells, and no measurement request will be added for WCDMA/UMTS cells [12]. This time interval is fundamental in ensuring the reliability of the emergency service callback.…”

“…Also, the empirical pathloss is computed by utilizing the measured reference signal received power (RSRP) that DT records. RSRP is the power of the LTE reference signals distributed on the entire bandwidth and narrowband [27]. It considers one of the important metrics for the quality of signal in LTE networks.…”
