“…With respect to the timing of deterioration, some studies found deterioration occurs at 6‐8 hours before cardiac arrest (Franklin & Mathew , Joo et al . ), whereas Ludikhuize et al . () reported more than 80% of ICU patients showed detectable signs of deterioration at 24 hours before cardiac arrest.…”

“…A review of the literature showed clear and detectable signs of deterioration are manifest in many patients before cardiac arrest (Ludikhuize et al 2012) and thus, the failure of nursing and medical staff to recognize and interpret correctly early signs of patient deterioration might lead to treatment delays and exacerbate negative prognoses (Hammond et al 2013). With respect to the timing of deterioration, some studies found deterioration occurs at 6-8 hours before cardiac arrest (Franklin & Mathew 1994, Joo et al 2012, whereas Ludikhuize et al (2012) reported more than 80% of ICU patients showed detectable signs of deterioration at 24 hours before cardiac arrest. Similarly, in this study, initial detectable changes in systolic and diastolic blood pressures were observed at 18-20 hours before cardiac arrest or death and became more marked at 5-10 hours before these events.…”

“…The medical emergency team (MET), including physicians and nurses, screens and detects clinically deteriorated hospitalized patients at early stages and manages patients who require acute care in general wards [ 6 ]. Several studies have reported that METs reduce the rate of ICU admission, the number of patients who suffer a cardiac arrest, and mortality rate [ 7 8 ].…”
