“…Two earlier studies with chronic systolic HF patients found increased RA size, measured as RA volume, to be correlated to RV dysfunction and independently associated with adverse prognosis. 10,11 Both studies were conducted on younger populations than in our study, with a lower mean LVEF, a smaller patient group, and shorter follow-up periods. Furthermore, in the study by Sallach et al, 10 the LAV index was smaller than in our study.…”

“…Therefore, clinically applicable markers other than measures of left ventricular (LV) systolic function are needed to identify high‐risk elderly patients with HF. Increasing left atrial (LA) size is a well‐documented risk factor for adverse events in HF patients, but there is limited research on right atrial (RA) size as a prognostic factor in elderly HF patients …”

“…HFrEF-betegekben a JPVI összefüggést mutatott a betegek funkcionális állapotával, valamint a mortalitás és egyéb adverz események független prediktorának bizonyult (26)(27)(28)(29)(30). Hasonló eredmények születtek PAH-populációban is (31,32).…”

“…Further, right atrial (RA) volume and size is an important indicator of RV remodeling. Prior studies have shown that an increased RA volume is an independent predictor of adverse outcomes in patients with HF [4,5]. It has also been shown that the ratio of right atrial volume index (RAVI) to left atrial volume index (LAVI), RAVI/LAVI, is associated with adverse outcomes in pulmonary hypertension [6].Therefore, we hypothesized that the RAVI/LAVI, as measured by two dimensional doppler echocardiography, is independently associated with death and LVAD implantation in patients with HF presenting with CS.…”
