“…45 Finally, increased levels of carotid artery IMT have been associated with positive exercise test results. 46,47 Accordingly, the finding of a significant association between a quantitative abnormality of the carotid IMT and evidence of established CAD is reassuring and is concordant with the principle that atherosclerosis is a diffuse disease. Detection in one bed implies a high likelihood of association with atherosclerosis in a different bed.…”

“…24 In a study of asymptomatic hypercholesterolemic patients, carotid plaque demonstrated by B-mode ultrasound significantly improved the diagnostic specificity of exercise electrocardiography in predicting atherosclerotic lesions by coronary angiography. 25 May plaque morphology assessed in one arterial territory reflect the individual's plaque morphology in other arterial territories due to a common underlying systemic factor? This possibility has been suggested earlier.…”

“…18 According to Giral et al a positive exercise electrocardiogram is not infrequent occurrence in asymptomatic hypercholesterolemic patients, but the number of false positive tests may be relatively high (50%). 19 TMT was also positive in one patient with LAE, 2 patients of low voltage complex, 5 patients with non specific ST-T changes and one patient with sinus bradycardia in ECG findings. Study by MiSAD group et al concluded that abnormalities in ECG at rest had the highest odds ratio (9.27) for TMT positivity and ST-T abnormalities in ECG at rest is an important predicting factor for silent CAD in T2DM patients and suggests an indication of performance of further investigations in presence of these abnormalities.…”
