Use of warm Ringer’s lactate solution in the management of locally advanced giant cell tumor of bone

Abstract: Use of warm Ringer's lactate solution as an adjunctive local treatment during intra-lesional curettage of giant cell tumor with locally soft tissue extension was found to be safe with relatively low recurrence rate. However, additional studies to identify the optimum thermoablation dose at each part of the body should be undertaken before this technique can be used as a standard treatment.

“…4), hemangiomas, and GCTs. Sclerosing agents include ethanol, denosumab, doxycycline, polidocanol, sodium tetradecyl sulfate (STS), and hydrogen peroxide, 40 as well as warm Ringer's lactate solution, 40 phenol, or liquid nitrogen. STS and doxycycline can be delivered as foam, for improved coverage and dissemination within the tumor cavity, with reduced side effects from foam leakage when compared with fluids, and they are therefore preferred over other sclerosants.…”

“…The recurrence rate is approximately 17.4% within the rst ve years of follow-up [8]. Intralesional curettage with the subsequent application of different adjuvant substances to control local recurrence of GCT of bone have been studied, including warm Ringer's lactate solution, phenol, bone cement, zoledronic acid-loaded bone cement, and liquid nitrogen [9][10][11][12].…”
