Use of Treated Municipal Wastewater for Agricultural Irrigation

Show more

“…Phosphorus compounds are removed by filtration from the soil by adsorption and precipitation, but nitrogen is oxidized by oxygen and turns into nitrate. Nitrate can cause serious problems in groundwater (Ak and Top, 2018). It is very important which are the climate, soil, plant and irrigation method for reuse of treated watewater.…”

“…If population growth continues in this way, food production must increase by more than 70% in order to meet the food need in 2050. The amount of irrigation water needed for agricultural production will also increase (Ak and Top, 2018). In order to ensure sustainable use of water resources, first of all, the qualitative characteristics of existing water resources should be determined and correct use strategies should be determined (Azaza et al, 2010;Bozdag, 2017).…”

“…Depending on the increasing population, it is predicted that by 2050, 70% more food will be produced, and consequently, the amount of water required for agricultural irrigation will increase [17,18]. Thus, it has become an increasingly commonplace practice to use treated wastewater for agricultural irrigation, especially in countries that have water shortages and want to eliminate the cost of wastewater treatment and utilize the rich nutrient resources in wastewater [13,19].…”
