Abstract: Background: Lower quantity and poorer sleep quality are common in most older adults, especially for those who live in a nursing home. The use of wearable devices, which measure some parameters such as the sleep stages, could help to determine the influence of sleep quality in daily activity among nursing home residents. Therefore, this study aims to analyse the influence of sleep and its changes concerning the health status and daily activity of older people who lived in a nursing home, by monitoring the parti… Show more

“…The goal of their study was to examine the relationship between daily activity measured by the device and the risk of falling of older persons residing in a nursing home or attending an adult day care program. Development of the wristband is not articulated in the literature, although there are articles about its use in validation of sleep quality 29 and influence on daily life of older persons in nursing homes 30 . In this study, the wristband was used to measure daily activity (number of daily steps and distance covered) and sleep (daily deep sleep, daily shallow sleep, total daily sleep, and awake time in bed at night).…”

“…This review will seek to identify the available literature on the use of WT in LTCFs for older adults, including type of device design, body placement, functions, data gathered, and the range of health conditions or diseases associated with WT usage. Studies, policies, or opinion papers will be included if they pertain to wearable devices that perform activity or movement tracking, location monitoring, vital signs monitoring, sleep assessment, or other functions specifically used to improve the care provided in LTCF settings 14–17 . This review will also seek to understand whether aspects related to acceptability of WT by older adults have been considered in LTCF settings 17–19 .…”

“…WT is playing an increasing role in caring for older adults living in LTCFs by monitoring frailty and age-related issues in the aged population 14–17 . WT can help assess the level of frailty, provide real-time monitoring of vital signs or sleep patterns and allow staff to quickly respond to changes in older residents’ conditions 14 .…”
