Today, the introduction of ceramic materials in the medical eld is becoming a vital necessity because of its stable physicochemical characteristics, high biocompatibility, and good osteoconductivity. On the other hand, machining of ceramic components is di cult, owing to their extreme hardness and brittleness. Additive Manufacturing (AM) technologies are an appropriate alternative to obtain the complex shapes of implants, which can have porous structures. Thus, since the development of 3D printing, Direct Ink Writing (DIW) is one of the most promising and inexpensive techniques for shaping free-form ceramic medical components such as prostheses or dental implants from liquids or pastes. However, the assurance of performance criteria of the extrusion system for simultaneous usage becomes the major challenge for most Direct Ink Writing (DIW) platforms, for instance for printing large parts, for multi-material printing, to decrease printing time, and to increase e ciency in terms of motor usage and weight of the extruders. To address the current de ciencies, a new extrusion system is redesigned for a 3D printing machine for ceramics that is compatible with different low-cost, open-source 3D printers. The proposed extrusion model enables printing with a loader with different syringes simultaneously, without stopping the operational process while switching the syringe. Pugh concept analysis was used to select the optimum design shape. After that, the 3D CAD environment was used to combine the strength of Pugh's method and the design space. This brings a new concept into the mechanical design eld for 3D printers, which is in line with the technological trends prevalent in industry.

A 3D printer is a product resulting from the development of a product. As a product, a 3-dimensional printer has its value as an object with a function because with its function as a printing tool; the printer can produce an object in physical form. So that it can produce real objects as the output. By using a qualitative descriptive method, this research gets the result that all elements contained in a 3-dimensional printer can not only produce a real object that is following its initial function. In line with the method, this study aims to explain the function of a 3-dimensional printer, which can directly produce products. Other than that, 3 Dimensional printers are now present as tools that can make objects real. So that it has a positive impact on the creation of an object. 3-dimensional printers are still owned by limited circles, but indirectly it can influence potential users of these tools in the form of demands regarding knowledge in the process of making an object using a 3-dimensional printer.

Additive Manufacturing (AM) technologies, which were developed around 30 years ago, are still evolving. They are applied in different sectors such as aeronautics, automotive, health, etc. There are different AM technologies: binder jetting, direct energy deposition, material extrusion, material jetting, powder bed fusion, sheet lamination and vat photopolimerisation. Amongst all of them, material extrusion is the most common technique used nowadays, due to several reasons: manufacture of parts is easy and cost-effective, desktop 3D printers are affordable, and they allow the use of many different materials. Within this AM category, two main techniques can be highlighted: FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication), also known as FDM (Fused Deposition Modelling), and DIW (Direct Ink Writing). FFF is the most typical technology which can offer multimaterial 3D printed parts. In addition, it can be mixed with other AM technologies in order to build hybrid 3D printers. Main applications of the FFF technology in the medical sector, which are explained in detail in the present chapter, are the manufacture of training models and surgical planning prototypes, medical devices, surgical guides, bio-active scaffolds, and cell 3D-bioprinting, etc. During the global pandemic of COVID-19, the FDM technology allowed to print different devices such as face masks or artificial breathers, among others.
