“…In this review, it was identified that the procedure of introducing air through the tube and auscultating the epigastric region is the second chosen method of American nurses to confirm gastric positioning 28 , which is also observed in the clinical practice of the authors considering their action and teaching fields. However, literature indicates that it is possible to listen to the air bubbles in the epigastric region, regardless of whether the end of the tube is located in the stomach, esophagus or respiratory tract.…”

“…A survey of 2298 critical care nurses reported 78.7% used auscultation to verify TEAD placement 23 . Similarly, auscultation was the most common method reported by healthcare facilities to verify TEAD placement in the study by Lyman et al 5 The fact that institutional policies support the use of auscultation shows there is much work to be done to change practice in this area.…”

“…Similarly, the smaller the patient, the smaller the nares, which means a smaller bore tube should be placed to promote patient comfort. A 6 French TEAD is the most commonly used in neonatal and pediatric patients 5 . Whether the tube used is polyurethane or silicone tends to be an institutional decision as both are soft and durable.…”

“…The lack of consistency in verification of NG tubes among care providers in different settings is remarkable because NG feeding is a common technology used for children who are not able to consume adequate nutrition orally or who cannot tolerate oral feeding to sustain growth and development 1 . While many of these children will eventually have a longer term, more stable feeding tube placed, such as a gastrostomy tube (GT), some may use an NG feeding tube for a short time while the healthcare team evaluates the need for longer term enteral access.…”
