Use of shellfish as an aggregate in civil construction: experience report on the North Coast of Pernambuco

Abstract

This research refers to the experience report that was based on a research project carried out by the EcoSoluções group of the IFPE/Campus Recife registered with the CNPq, substantiated by the scientific initiation (PIBIC) and extension (PIBEX) of the courses: technician in Buildings and sanitation ; degree in Civil Engineering. The objective of this work was “to report the experience with fishermen from the north coast of Pernambuco in the viable use of shellfish as aggregates for civil construction”. The method used was experimental and ethnographic. In addition, one can identify in this work, aspects that support the exercise concerning the law that formed Federal Institutes (Law 11.892/2008), such as: (i) promoting the production, development and transfer of social technologies, notably those aimed at the preservation of the environment; (ii) carry out applied research, stimulating the development of technical and technological solutions, extending their benefits to the community. Therefore, sustainability was verified in the use of this residue, considering: environmental contribution; social and economic.
