“…Li et al applied the change of nighttime lighting area during the Syrian crisis for a long time and concluded that there was a linear relationship between the loss of nighttime light and the number of lost population, and confirmed the effectiveness of NTL in monitoring humanitarian crisis [14]. In recent years, the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) sensor on the National Polar-orbiting Partnership (NPP) satellite has become a new source for monitoring light at night, and it can provide better quality data [15], and these data were used in the Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2022 for war action interpretation, socio-economic assessment and refugee population monitoring [16][17][18].…”

“…Most of the available studies utilize satellite imagery to evaluate the accessibility and connectivity of transport network during such events (7)(8)(9)(10). Among these, a recent effort has also used satellite information for evaluating socio-economic consequences of the war in Ukraine (11). On the contrary, as a comparative case, the global disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic has received a significant degree of research attention (1,12,13).…”
