Hydrogeochemical investigation of groundwater resources of Kashipur Block, Purulia district, West Bengal has been carried out to assess the water quality for domestic and irrigation uses. Twenty groundwater samples were collected and analyzed for pH, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, hardness, major anions (CO 3 2− , HCO 3 − , Cl − , SO 4 2− , F − ) and cations (Ca 2+ , Mg 2+ , Fe 2+ , Na + , K + ). Study results reveal that the groundwater of the area is mostly acidic in nature. The trend amongst average ionic concentrations of cations and anions is Mg 2+ > Ca 2+ > Na + > Fe 2+ > K + and Cl − > HCO 3 − > CO 3 2− > SO 4 2− > F − respectively during the post monsoon whereas the trend for cations and anions are Mg 2+ > Ca 2+ > Na + > K + > Fe and Cl − > HCO 3 − > SO 4 2− > F − > CO 3 − in pre monsoon session, respectively. To explore the ionic toxicity of the study area, the derived parameters like sodium adsorption ratio, soluble sodium percentage, residual sodium carbonate, magnesium adsorption ratio, Kelly's ratio and permeability index were calculated. The hydro geochemical data suggest that weathering of rock forming minerals along with secondary contributions from agricultural and anthropogenic sources are mainly controlling the groundwater composition of Kashipur Block, Purulia District. According to piper diagram, water samples of most of the area of the block are fresh water and in some areas sulphate rich throughout the year. All samples are distributed to central rock dominance category. Groundwater chemistry of this block is mainly controlled by the interaction existing between the litho units and the percolating water into the subsurface domain. However, the groundwater quality and suitability of this study area can be termed as good to moderate with a few exceptions which have been encountered on a local scale.

Chickpea is supposed to be a prospective crop for soil reclamation. The goal of this study was to determine the effect of tillage and humidification conditions on the chickpea desalination properties. The study was conducted by using the randomized split plot method in four replications during 2012-14 at the Agricultural Cooperative Farm «Radianska Zemlia» of Kherson region in Ukraine. The results of the study showed that the maximum salts uptake of 2.516 t ha -1 from the 0-50 cm soil layer and the maximum chickpea grain yield of 3.33 t ha -1 were provided under irrigated conditions with moldboard plowing on the depth of 28-30 cm. It was established that the higher chickpea grain yield is, the greater the salts uptake rate from the soil. It was also proven that the plowing depth has no significant effect on the chickpea grain yield and desalination properties. It should be mentioned that chickpea showed limited desalination properties. The crop was not able to adsorb all the sodium from the soil when irrigated with saline water.

Bu çalışmada, Isparta Ovası'nda yeraltısularının tarımsal sulama için uygunluğu değerlendirilmiştir. Bu amaçla Isparta Ovası'nda sulama amacıyla kullanılan 21 adet yeraltısuyu kuyusundan örnek alın-mıştır. Sulama suyu kalitesinin değerlendirilmesinde EC, TDS değerleri ve SAR, % Na, SSP, RSC, MR, KI, PI, PS, TH gibi kimyasal indeks hesaplamaları yapılmıştır. Sulama suyu kriterlerine göre suların bir kısmı EC değerleri bakımından "izin verilebilir" sınıfta, ABD Tuzluluk diyagramı sınıflandırmasında yüksek tuzluluk/düşük sodyum sınıfı olan C3-S1 grubundadır. Diğer bir kısmı ise tuzluluk ve sodyum tehlikesi oluşturmadan tüm bitkiler için kullanılabilen, orta tuzlu C2-S1 grubu ve "iyi" sulama suları olarak sınıflandırılmaktadır. Tüm su örnekleri, TH değerlerine göre orta sertlikte sulardan çok sert sulara kadar değişen sertlik değerlerine sahiptir. Çalışma bölgesindeki sular, % Na ve SSP değerleri açısından "iyi" ile "mükemmel", SAR değeri açısından "mükemmel", PI değerleri açısından "iyi" kalitede özelliğe sahip sulama suları olarak belirlenmiştir. RSC, MR, KI, PS değerleri göz önünde bulundurulduğunda ise çalışma alanındaki suların tümünün sulama amacıyla kullanımı uygundur. Bununla birlikte, bu kimyasal indeks parametreleri sulama suyu kalite kriterleri temelinde Coğrafi Bilgi Sistemleri programında veri büyüklüklerine göre derecelendirilmiş semboller kullanılarak sı-nıflandırılmıştır. Bu değerlendirmelerde, bazı lokasyonlarda kimyasal indeks parametrelerinin farklılık gösterdiği ancak suların tümünün tarımsal amaçla kullanıma uygun niteliğe sahip yeraltısuları olduğu belirlenmiştir.
