Use of polymer films in amperometric biosensors

Abstract: Different types of polymeric films implemented in various capacities in amperometric biosensor design are reviewed. Conducting and nonconducting polymer films and composite films are considered. Methods of film fabrication such as solvent casting, electropolymerization, and adsorption are presented. Film function, including prevention of interference and fouling problems, immobilization of the enzyme or active biocomponent, extension of linear range, or to address biocompatibility problems are described. The u… Show more

“…A adsorção consiste na dissolução do agente modificador em um solvente apropriado e na exposição, em geral por imersão, do eletrodo a esta solução 24,25 . Inicialmente, os trabalhos envolveram adsorção em eletrodos de platina porém, na maioria dos trabalhos subsequentes, as adsorções foram realizadas em eletrodos de grafite e carbono ví-treo 26 .…”

“…[1][2][3] The thiophene-based compound, 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT), forms organic conducting polymers with good mechanical stability, and excellent electronic and optical properties and has been the focus of studies for antistatic coatings, high storage capacitors, and drug delivery applications. [4][5][6] Important in any of these applications includes understanding the factors of electron transfer reactions between the polymer film and electrode, ion transport within polymer films, and possible polymer lattice motions or changes in polymer conformation on the electrode surface.…”
