“…The beneficial effect of seed priming with CKs has been previously described under a range of growth conditions for many plant species, such as spring wheat ( Triticum aestivum L.) ( Iqbal and Ashraf, 2005 ; Iqbal et al, 2006 ) or basil ( Ocimum basilicum L) ( Bagheri et al, 2014 ). Despite this, there is not always a clear positive effect of priming, and it may also have a negative effect ( Miyoshi and Sato, 1997 ; Sneideris et al, 2015 ; Willams et al, 2016 ), depending on the type of compound, the concentration used for priming, or the plant species and cultivars tested (reviewed by De Diego and Spíchal, 2020 ).
