The purpose of the study is the evaluation seeds diversity of different species in the genus Rhododendron after pre-sowing treatment with organic compounds. As the signs of the seeds diversity is understood the seed germination and the seedling height. The research was conducted at the B.M. Kozo-Polyansky Botanical Garden of Voronezh State University (geographic coordinates: E 39°12', N 51°42'; 168.2 meters above sea level), Central Chernozem region (chernozem soil) in 2019-2020. It has been used ornamental shrubs. The study was made about the pyrimidinecarboxylic acids effect on the seed germination and the seedling height of Rhododendron species. The diversity of seeds is manifested in their heterogeneity according to morphological characteristics (the seedling height) and sowing qualities (seed germination) of Rhododendron species. The sowing properties (germinating capacity, seedling growth) were improved after treating the seeds with the organic compounds. There is the trend of increasing the seed germination and the seedling height of Rhododendron depended on the concentration of applied compounds. The seed germination for Rh. ledebourii, Rh. luteum, Rh. molle was increased from 5 to 7%, for Rh. schlippenbachii -from 5 to 10%. The seed treatment with pyrimidinecarboxylic acids at concentrations 0.01%, 0.05% and 0.1% allows to increase the seedling height for Rh. ledebourii from 37.5 to 75%, for Rh. luteum, Rh. molle -from 18.2 to 45.5%, for Rh. schlippenbachii from 20 to 40% concerning the control. To increase the seedling height, 2-benzylamino-4-methylpyrimidine-5-carboxylic acid at concentrations 0.05% and 0.1% is most effective. Morphologically close Rhododendron species (Rh. luteum, Rh. molle) indicated similar reactions to the seed treatment with compounds of the pyrimidinecarboxylic acid series.

Annotation. Quinoline derivatives are important compounds for chemical synthesis and the development of new drugs and pesticides. The practical application of a number of substances with a quinoline heterocycle in medical practice and agriculture is well known. Quinoline compounds exhibit a wide range of biological effects, including cytotoxic activity. Phytotoxic (cytotoxic) activity of 15 4-substituted quinoline derivatives were studied and compared with reference drugs. 7-R-4-substituted quinoline derivatives were tested by root test on Cucumis sativus L. seedlings at different concentrations. Distilled water was used as reference in the control experiment. During the experiment, all factors were taken into account to create equal conditions for all studied elements. The obtained results were processed using the program “STATISTICA® for Windows 6.0” (StatSoft Inc, No. АХХР712D833214FAN5) by methods of variational statistics using the Student’s t-test. 7-R-4-substituted quinoline derivatives turned out to be predominantly cytotoxic compounds, that corresponds to the “structure-action” dependence between the structure of investigated compounds and their biological activity. All tested compounds have a pronounced phytotoxic effect at the concentration of 500 μg/ml. The most pronounced cytotoxic effect was recorded among the (heteryl)cysteamine derivatives – β-(quinolin-4-yl)cysteamine dihydrochloride, β-(7-chloroquinolin-4-yl)cysteamine dihydrochloride, 3-((7-chloroquinolin-4-yl)thio)propanoic acid hydrochloride. Derivatives of (heterylthio)acetic acids have shown growth-promoting effects at low concentrations. Thus, 2-(quinolin-4-ylthio)- and 2-(7-chloroquinolin-4-ylthio) acetic acids have shown the most active effect (50-250% compared to control group) at concentrations of 1-20 μg ml. Sodium 3-((7-chloroquinolin-4-yl)thio)propanoate has indicators that exceed the control by 7-60%, with the most effective growth of the main root of seedlings by 30% among all studied substances at the concentration of 100 μg/ml compared to control group. Some compounds have cytotoxic activity that can be used in crop production as growth regulators of agricultural plants.

Synthesised organic compounds of pyrimidinecarboxylic acids are characterised by high biological activity, even when their concentrations are low. These compounds, when applied to the seeds of Rhododendron, a genus of woody plants, with concentrations of 0.01, 0.05, and 0.1 %, stimulate the growth of the plants. The effect is more obvious 3 months after the start of the experiment, rather than 7 months after. Thus, Rhododendron ledebourii Pojark. seedlings grew by 13.3-33.5 %, and Rhododendron smirnowii Trautv. seedlings grew by 29.6-48.1 %. Rhododendron ledebourii and Rhododendron smirnowii seedlings demonstrated similar direct correlations: when the concentration of 2-benzylamino-4-methyl-pyrimidine-5-carboxylic acid and 4-methyl-2-morpholin-4-pyrimidine-5-carboxylic acid (for Rhododendron ledebourii seeds only) rose from 0.01 to 0.1 %, the height of the seedlings increased. It is suggested using 4-methyl-2-piperidin-1-yl-pyrimidine-5-carboxylic acid, 2-benzylamino-4-methyl-pyrimidine-5-carboxylic acid, and 4-methyl-2-morpholin-4-pyrimidine-5-carboxylic acid at concentrations of 0.01, 0.05, and 0.1 % as growth stimulants for the species of Rhododendron genus.
