“…[272829] In our study, the mini scleral contact lens was successfully fitted in all patients and, the visual acuity improved in all eyes after contact lens fitting. Mean corrected visual acuity by placing the MSD contact lens without over refraction (was 0.09 that was significantly better than mean BSCVA ( P value = 0.007).…”

“…Corneal or scleral contact lens therapy can be used to promote healing while paying attention to the increased risks of secondary infection and lens-related sterile hypopyon [35,36,37]. The function of the lens is to provide a fluid cushion for the cornea and protect it from the rubbing effects of the lids [38,39,40]. Some authors have noticed an improvement in the cornea through the use of temporary silicone plugs to help increase tear volume [41].…”

“…Semi-scleral lenses have a smaller diameter (13-14.6 mm), which leads to a more practical application and a reduced cost. It is considered that scleral lenses can be more effective than semi-scleral lenses because of the formation of a large fluid reservoir over the cornea; however, Alipour et al 9 showed that mini-scleral lenses, with a diameter under 15.8 mm, were effective in the treatment of moderate to severe dry eye. Furthermore, we observed that semi-scleral lenses were effective both objectively (alleviation of punctate epitheliopathy and a reduction in lissamine green staining) and subjectively (improved patient quality of life).…”
