“…Variable staining of Reed-Sternberg cells in the L&H predominance subtype of Hodgkin's disease is reported, Innes & Frierson 1985, Norton & Isaacson 1985, Jack et al 1986, Hsu et al. 1986, Kornstein et al 1986).…”

“…',2 Immunohistochemistry for cytokeratins in particular is widely used in the diagnosis of anaplastic tumours, where perhaps the commonest problem is differentiation of carcinoma from lymphoma.3 Epithelial membrane antibodies are also usef~1,4~~ although they have a narrower spectrum of reactivity than the cytokeratins and give occasional staining of cells of lymphoid origin. 6 The cytokeratins comprise a closely related group of 19 polypeptides as described by Moll eta'.,' and many authors refer to these by their 'Moll number' as determined by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis. Differing types of epithelia have characteristic cytokeratin expression patterns which are generally shared by tumours derived from such epithelia.…”

“…A monoclonal antibody raised against a human monocyte cell line (U937) and designated anti Leu M1 is known to identify a differentiation antigen (CD 15) on human myelomonocytic cells,' and to recognize determinants of Reed -Sternberg cells of most variants of Hodgkin's disease (HD).2. 3 The CD15 antigen has recently also been detected on and within neoplastic cells of several forms of T ccll lymph~ma/leukaemia~-~ and on in vitro mitogen-stimulated, normal T helper/inducer lymphocytes. ' During the course of our immunohistological investigations of extra-nodal lymphoma, we noted consistent, specific staining of structures such as the salivary gland and gastrointestinal epithelial cells by the anti Leu M1 antibody.…”
